What are veterinary studies majors?

Veterinary studies programs cover a variety of topics related to animal health and medicine. These include anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, and disease prevention. In addition to taking coursework in these areas, you would also participate in clinical rotations at veterinary hospitals and clinics. This hands-on experience will allow you to gain skills in the diagnosis and treatment of animals. As a veterinary studies major, you’ll also learn about animal behavior, which is important for providing care that meets the unique needs of each patient.

Popular veterinary studies majors by degrees awarded

On average, around 5,700 students obtain a bachelor's degree or associate degree in all veterinary studies fields each year. In 2021, the most popular major within veterinary studies was veterinary technician and assistant with 598 students obtaining a bachelor's degree and 4,418 students obtaining an associate degree. The least popular major was veterinary sciences with 545 students obtaining a bachelor's degree and 219 students obtaining an associate degree. Overall, veterinary studies is a relatively uncommon area of study.
