What is a woodworking major?

Woodworking programs generally prepare participants to apply technical knowledge and skills to lay out and shape stock; assemble wooden articles or subassemblies; mark, bind, saw, carve, and sand wooden products; repair wooden articles, and use a variety of hand and power tools. Courses can include furniture design and manufacturing, as well as cabinetmaking and millwork.

How popular is woodworking as a major?

Each year, around 120 students obtain an associate degree in woodworking. In 2021, 88 students received an associate degree. This is 10% more woodworking majors than there were in 2020. Woodworking is a relatively uncommon major within building and construction.
