What is a teaching assistant major?

Teaching assistant students assist teachers in regular classroom settings or in providing instruction and supervision to special student populations, such as bilingual/bicultural students, special education students, adult learners, and students learning English. Coursework includes techniques of general classroom supervision, maintaining order, assisting with lessons, and carrying out related assignments.

Each year, fewer than 5 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 1,030 students obtain an associate degree in teaching assistant. In 2021, fewer than 5 students received a bachelor's degree and 871 students received an associate degree. This is 4% more teaching assistant majors than there were in 2020.
