What is a social sciences major?

This program focuses on the general study of human social behavior and social institutions using any of the methodologies common to the social sciences and/or history, or an undifferentiated program of study in the social sciences. Includes social science research methods, anthropology, archaeology, criminology, geography, sociology, and gerontology, among others.

The national average salary for social sciences graduates in the United States is $60,000 per year. Those in the top 10 percent make over $140,000 a year, while the bottom 10 percent make under $22,100 a year. While salary ranges can vary by role, industry, and location, social sciences graduates typically make between $39,400 and $92,000 per year.

How popular is social sciences as a major?

Each year, around 1,900 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 170 students obtain an associate degree in social sciences. In 2021, 1,669 students received a bachelor's degree and 106 students received an associate degree. This is 7% fewer social sciences majors than there were in 2020.
