Students of small business management learn to develop and manage independent small businesses. This includes courses in business administration, enterprise planning and entrepreneurship, start-up, small business operations and problems, personnel supervision, capitalization and investment, taxation, business law and regulations, e-commerce, home business operations, and applications to specific sectors, products, and services.

How popular is small business management as a major?

Each year, around 330 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 460 students obtain an associate degree in small business management. In 2021, 491 students received a bachelor's degree and 419 students received an associate degree. This is 2% fewer small business management majors than there were in 2020. Small business management is a relatively uncommon major within business and management.
