What is a general construction trades major?

This program familiarizes students in applying technical knowledge and skills to lay out, cut, fabricate, erect, install, and repair wooden structures and fixtures as well as inspect, construct, and maintain structures and related properties. Instructional topics include masonry, carpentry, electrical and power transmission installation, building/construction finishing, management, inspection, and other construction-related applications.

Those in the top 10 percent make over $190,000 a year, while the bottom 10 percent make under $36,500 a year. While salary ranges can vary by role, industry, and location, general construction trades graduates typically make between $58,800 and $130,000 per year.

How popular is general construction trades as a major?

Each year, around 25 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 1,170 students obtain an associate degree in general construction trades.
