What is a retail management major?

Retailing management students learn product and service promotion from the perspective of individual and family consumers. This prepares individuals to function as consumer management and marketing consultants in for-profit and non-profit enterprises. The curriculum includes instruction in applied market research, consumer behavior, product sourcing and distribution, profitability, customer feedback and evaluation methods, promotion and retailing campaign development, and applications to specific domestic and international consumer markets.

How popular is retail management as a major?

Each year, around 830 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 220 students obtain an associate degree in retail management. In 2021, 879 students received a bachelor's degree and 232 students received an associate degree. This is 13% more retail management majors than there were in 2020. Retail management is a relatively popular major compared to other trades and personal services majors.
