How popular is general religious studies as a major?
Each year, around 4,080 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 740 students obtain an associate degree in general religious studies. In 2021, 3,524 students received a bachelor's degree and 786 students received an associate degree. This is relatively the same number of general religious studies majors as there were in 2020. General religious studies is one of the most popular majors within religious studies.

Share your experienceUse a planner and lots of prayer. Majoring in Religion is challenging but immensely rewarding. Remember that it is okay to ask for help. Take advantage of campus resources. Talk to your professors and fellow students, you’ll make lifelong connections and friends.
Do the work. It may seem simple but many seem to have difficulty even reading the instructions carefully. Do what is asked and be creative and thoughtful and you will do well.

While religious studies don't give a direct career path, it gives you many other skills that can be applied to almost anything. My reading and writing skills are improving, as well as my ability to understand other people's backgrounds. Get to know your professors, ask questions in class, and get to know other people with your major!
