What is a religious education major?

One may expect this curriculum to focus on the theory and practice of providing educational services to members of faith communities, within the context of a particular religion, and that prepares individuals to serve as religious educators. This includes instruction in planning and teaching lessons, organizing and supervising instructional activities, designing and developing instructional materials, and administering religious education programs and facilities.

How popular is religious education as a major?

Each year, around 820 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 30 students obtain an associate degree in religious education. In 2021, 708 students received a bachelor's degree and 18 students received an associate degree. This is 3% more religious education majors than there were in 2020. Religious education is a relatively popular major compared to other religious studies majors.
