What is a radio and television major?

Radio and television programs focus on the theories, methods, and techniques used to plan, produce, and distribute audio and video programs and messages, and that prepares individuals to function as staff, producers, directors, and managers of radio and television shows and media organizations. This includes instruction in media aesthetics, planning, scheduling, and production, writing and editing, performing and directing, personnel and facilities management, marketing and distribution, media regulations, law, and policy, and principles of broadcast technology.

How popular is radio and television as a major?

Each year, around 5,740 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 740 students obtain an associate degree in radio and television. In 2021, 5,292 students received a bachelor's degree and 985 students received an associate degree. This is 3% fewer radio and television majors than there were in 2020. Radio and television is a relatively popular major compared to other communications majors.
