What is a plumbing major?

This area of study prepares students to design, install, and test industrial and commercial piping systems, automatic fire and exposure protection systems as well as wells and sewer systems. It includes instruction in water systems, steam systems, heating and cooling systems, lubricating systems, piping materials, installation tools operation and maintenance, valve installation and repair, technical mathematics, blueprint interpretation, and applicable codes and standards. Concentrations include pipefitting and well drilling as well as other water supply services.

How popular is plumbing as a major?

Each year, around 210 students obtain an associate degree in plumbing. In 2021, 243 students received an associate degree. This is 6% more plumbing majors than there were in 2020. Plumbing is a relatively popular major compared to other building and construction majors.
