Plant science relies on the scientific principles that underlie the breeding, cultivation, and production of agricultural plants, and the production, processing, and distribution of agricultural plant products. Course topics focus on the plant sciences, crop cultivation and production, and agricultural and food products processing.

How popular is plant science as a major?

Each year, around 620 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 15 students obtain an associate degree in plant science. In 2021, 581 students received a bachelor's degree and 19 students received an associate degree. This is 10% fewer plant science majors than there were in 2020. Plant science is a relatively popular major compared to other agricultural sciences majors.
