What is a legal administrative assistant major?

Students studying to be legal administrative assistants are trained to serve as legal office managers, special assistants, and legal secretaries. This includes instruction in office management, secretarial science, principles of U.S. or Canadian law, legal terminology and documentation, legal research, legal software applications, law office procedures, record-keeping, billing, applicable policies and regulations, and professional standards and ethics.

Each year, around 10 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 300 students obtain an associate degree in legal administrative assistant. In 2021, 5 students received a bachelor's degree and 174 students received an associate degree. This is 2% fewer legal administrative assistant majors than there were in 2020.
