What is a landscaping and groundskeeping major?

This curriculum concentrates on the management and maintenance of indoor/outdoor ornamental and recreational plants and groundcovers as well as related conceptual designs established by landscape architects, interior designers, enterprise owners or managers, and individual clients. Course topics include applicable principles of horticulture, gardening, plant and soil irrigation and nutrition, turf maintenance, plant maintenance, equipment operation and maintenance, personnel supervision, and purchasing.

How popular is landscaping and groundskeeping as a major?

Each year, around 220 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 460 students obtain an associate degree in landscaping and groundskeeping. In 2021, 198 students received a bachelor's degree and 373 students received an associate degree. This is 9% fewer landscaping and groundskeeping majors than there were in 2020. Landscaping and groundskeeping is a relatively popular major compared to other agricultural sciences majors.
