What is an insurance major?

Insurance programs prepare individuals to manage risk in organizational settings and provide insurance and risk-aversion services to businesses, individuals, and other organizations. Courses focus on casualty insurance and general liability, property insurance, employee benefits, social and health insurance, loss adjustment, underwriting, risk theory, and pension planning.

How popular is insurance as a major?

Each year, around 1,370 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 10 students obtain an associate degree in insurance. In 2021, 1,505 students received a bachelor's degree and 12 students received an associate degree. This is 3% fewer insurance majors than there were in 2020. Insurance is a relatively uncommon major within business and management.
