What is an instrumentation technician major?

Instrumentation technician students are trained to employ basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers engaged in developing control and measurement systems and procedures. Course instruction involves instrumentation design and maintenance, calibration, design and production testing and scheduling, automated equipment functions, applications to specific industrial tasks, and report preparation.

How popular is instrumentation technician as a major?

Each year, around 35 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 1,960 students obtain an associate degree in instrumentation technician. In 2021, 30 students received a bachelor's degree and 1,733 students received an associate degree. This is 3% fewer instrumentation technician majors than there were in 2020. Instrumentation technician is a relatively popular major compared to other engineering technician majors.
