What is a graphic design major?

Graphic design students apply artistic and computer techniques to the interpretation of technical and commercial concepts. This includes instruction in computer-assisted art and design, printmaking, concept sketching, technical drawing, color theory, imaging, studio technique, still and life modeling, multimedia applications, communication skills, and commercial art business operations.

How popular is graphic design as a major?

Each year, around 6,760 students obtain a bachelor���s degree and around 2,670 students obtain an associate degree in graphic design. In 2021, 7,414 students received a bachelor's degree and 2,343 students received an associate degree. This is 2% more graphic design majors than there were in 2020. Graphic design is one of the most popular majors within design.
