What is a graphic communications major?

Graphic communications students are taught to apply technical knowledge and skills in the manufacture and distribution or transmission of graphic communications products. Subtopics include printing management, platemaker/imager, printing press operation, computer typography and composition equipment operator, as well as other graphic communications concentrations. This includes instruction in the prepress, press, and postpress phases of production operations and processes such as offset lithography, flexography, gravure, letterpress, screen printing, foil stamping, digital imaging, and other reproduction methods.

How popular is graphic communications as a major?

Each year, around 590 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 720 students obtain an associate degree in graphic communications. In 2021, 491 students received a bachelor's degree and 658 students received an associate degree. This is 6% fewer graphic communications majors than there were in 2020. Graphic communications is a relatively popular major compared to other communications majors.
