What is a general global studies major?

Students of area and ethnic studies focus on the history, society, politics, culture, and economics of one or more of the peoples of the African continent, usually with an emphasis on Africa south of the Sahara, and including the African diasporas overseas. Subtopics include African studies, North American studies, Asian studies, European and Russian studies, Latin American studies, as well as minority studies, among others.

Those in the top 10 percent make over $165,000 a year, while the bottom 10 percent make under $22,000 a year. While salary ranges can vary by role, industry, and location, general global studies graduates typically make between $40,000 and $100,000 per year.

How popular is general global studies as a major?

Each year, around 1,050 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 20 students obtain an associate degree in general global studies.
