How popular is engineering science as a major?
Each year, around 570 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 450 students obtain an associate degree in engineering science. In 2021, 549 students received a bachelor's degree and 454 students received an associate degree. This is 11% fewer engineering science majors than there were in 2020. If you doubt your capabilities, don't. Just because you don't deem yourself "smart" enough to pursue a degree like this, doesn't mean you won't be able to do it. By always going to class, studying, asking questions, reading, and practicing, that will take you a long way. It is okay to struggle, it is okay to not know something, and ask questions. That way you can learn and grow in your degree path.
Never give up on your dreams, it will be difficult but everyone can do it if they Believe in the their selfes. You have to give the best of yourself, because there are a thousand other people behind you who have the same dream as you. Learn physics and mathematics well, and study constantly especially in the first year. You need to start learning code and focus on your goals and build them. Dont let anybody put you down!
Although school is indeed tough, I believe there are many ways that students could overcome these obstacles and stay on the right track. What we have to consider when choosing our majors is INTEREST. I’ve realized that my interest in Engineering Science and the passion that I’ve gained for it over the years is the main factor that pushes me to not give up. Your interest in your desired major can take you far. College in general serves as a heavy load on us. Another tip, something that has helped me this far is PLANNING. Engineering Science comes with a lot of extra studying and doing extra work outside of your classes. Simply make a timetable and adhere to it, make sure you try your best to follow it. Lastly, I would definitely advice students to always go to office hours. Going to office hours gives you an opportunity to have one on one conversations with your professors and receive the proper guidance. I noticed a big change in my grades when I started going to office hours.
I would advise students in engineering science to stay curious and never stop learning. Embrace challenges and don't be afraid to ask for help when needed. Collaborate with classmates and build a network of support. And most importantly, believe in yourself and your abilities.
