What is an e-commerce major?

This path of study allows individuals to plan, manage, supervise, and market electronic business operations, products, and services provided online via the internet. Class topics include business administration, information technology, information resources management, web design, computer and internet law and policy, computer privacy and security, e-trading, insurance, electronic marketing, investment capital planning, enterprise operations, personnel supervision, contracting, and product and service networking.

The national average salary for e-commerce graduates in the United States is $78,000 per year. Those in the top 10 percent make over $165,000 a year, while the bottom 10 percent make under $30,000 a year. While salary ranges can vary by role, industry, and location, e-commerce graduates typically make between $52,000 and $115,000 per year.

How popular is e-commerce as a major?

Each year, around 130 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 15 students obtain an associate degree in e-commerce. In 2021, 144 students received a bachelor's degree and 12 students received an associate degree. This is 28% more e-commerce majors than there were in 2020. E-commerce is a relatively uncommon major within business and management.
