How popular is creative writing as a major?
Each year, around 3,280 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 100 students obtain an associate degree in creative writing. In 2021, 3,331 students received a bachelor's degree and 109 students received an associate degree. This is 2% more creative writing majors than there were in 2020. Creative writing is one of the most popular majors within English.

Share your experienceA professor once told me that if you’re feeling constrained with the structures of writing, who cares? Just write in a way that reflects your artistic creativity, open a new pathway, be the genius people look back on.
Always take criticism with a grain of a salt. Remember that it is there to make you better, not bring you down. But don't let it change what you write or the passion you have.
Keep working hard and never be afraid to put your opinion out into the world. Sometimes the world needs to read something you have written.
It's not just a major for authors. There are so many opportunities that can be done with a creative writing degree. You are able to gain such a broad spectrum of education that teaches you a lot in your short four years at school.
My advice to students is to have fun with it. Writing is about creating new ideas and broadening your skills as a writer. It’s also about being creative, hence the reason why it is called Creative Writing. Be unique and write stories that not only compel readers but inspires them.
