What is a business support services major?

Business support services programs train participants to perform the duties of administrative assistants and/or secretaries and stenographers. Subtopics include secretarial science, executive assistant, data entry, clerical services, and customer service support. This includes instruction in business communications, principles of business law, word processing and data entry, office machines operation and maintenance, office procedures, public relations, secretarial accounting, filing systems and records management, and report preparation.

How popular is business support services as a major?

Each year, around 3,870 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 4,830 students obtain an associate degree in business support services. In 2021, 3,640 students received a bachelor's degree and 3,447 students received an associate degree. This is 5% fewer business support services majors than there were in 2020. Business support services is one of the most popular majors within trades and personal services.
