What is a biomedical technician major?

Students in this major are prepared to engage basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers engaged in developing biological or medical systems and products. Some course topics may include instrument calibration, design and installation testing, system safety and maintenance procedures, procurement and installation procedures, and report preparation.

How popular is biomedical technician as a major?

Each year, around 60 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 650 students obtain an associate degree in biomedical technician. In 2021, 31 students received a bachelor's degree and 532 students received an associate degree. This is 9% fewer biomedical technician majors than there were in 2020. Biomedical technician is a relatively popular major compared to other medical assistants and technician majors.
