What is an audiology major?

Audiology students learn to diagnose and treat hearing loss and other disorders involving the ear, advise patients on means to use their remaining hearing, and select and fit hearing aids and other devices. Curriculums focus on acoustics, anatomy and physiology of hearing, hearing measurement, auditory pathology, middle and inner ear analysis, rehabilitation therapies and assistive technologies, and pediatric and other special applications.

How popular is audiology as a major?

Each year, around 210 students obtain a bachelor’s degree in audiology. In 2021, 213 students received a bachelor's degree. This is 33% more audiology majors than there were in 2020. Audiology is a relatively popular major compared to other health professions majors.
