What is an advertising major?

Advertising students study the creation, execution, transmission, and evaluation of commercial messages in various media intended to promote and sell products, services, and brands. It prepares individuals to function as advertising assistants, technicians, and managers. Course topics include advertising theory, marketing strategy, advertising design and production methods, campaign methods and techniques, media management, related principles of business management, and applicable technical and equipment skills.

How popular is advertising as a major?

Each year, around 4,590 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 260 students obtain an associate degree in advertising. In 2021, 4,418 students received a bachelor's degree and 54 students received an associate degree. This is 2% more advertising majors than there were in 2020. Advertising is a relatively popular major compared to other communications majors.
