What is an adult development, gerontology, and aging major?

Students of adult development and aging concentrate on the characteristics of aging populations and the needs of older individuals in family and institutional settings. It includes instruction in the biological and psychological stages of aging, the provision of dependent care, serving the social, economic, and psychological needs of aging adults, related public policy issues, and adult community resources.

How popular is adult development, gerontology, and aging as a major?

Each year, around 340 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 150 students obtain an associate degree in adult development, gerontology, and aging. In 2021, 316 students received a bachelor's degree and 105 students received an associate degree. This is 9% fewer adult development, gerontology, and aging majors than there were in 2020. Adult development, gerontology, and aging is a relatively popular major compared to other anthropology and sociology majors.
