I love Texas TechUniversity! It has a strong academic program, diverse commuity and vibrant campus life. It is located in Lubbock,TX. Although it is in the middle of nowhere and is pretty dry you will always end up finding something to do on campus. The campus is huge and known for its architecture. School spirit is strong such as sports events. Texas Tech also offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. There are also many opportunities for research and interships! I've met a lot of great people while attending texas tech.
You WILL have your faith in humanity depleted here!
I've always aspired to be an academic, but I came out feeling disappointed, abandoned, and frequently betrayed by all those I expected to call colleagues and peers. I was denied all the prettiest of opportunities to prove my passion.
There's no sense of community or solidarity here. I've LITERALLY seen students bypass other unconscious students! In fact, one set of them who just stood and watched were NURSES! Nobody gives a flying saucer about each other here; just getting to class and their next drink. Sadly, the frequency of sexual assaults around here breeds an environment of distrust amongst the sexes. The closest anyone here ever gets to a sense of real community was making fun of Sister Cindy.
While that is MOST of the campus life, the international students and some of the atheltes provide a sense of humanity that is absent everywhere else. So if you do have narrow academic commitments to come here, stick with them.

I am the first to go to a university on both sides of my hispanic family. I honestly did not know what to expect at first I had mixed feelings since I knew no one at Tech. During welcome week I grew familiar of the campus, fond of the people, and a sense of belonging and school pride. I loved my first year! I was able to study in multiple areas on campus, attend supplemental instruction and gain more practice and reaffirm me knowledge of the material in class. I found out the best way I retain material and what study habits worked best for me. Overall, I have only a few things I would change. I had a roomate issue which escalated and it was reported multiple times, but housing took a while to resolve the issue. Another thing I would like to see is a reinforcement in quiet hours in the dorm because at 2-4 in the morning the dorms were unusally loud on weekends and weekdays.
