Texas State University Reviews

At Texas State University, there were several aspects I found appealing and areas where I felt improvements could be made. One of the things I liked about Texas State University was its vibrant campus life. The university offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, clubs, and organizations that cater to various interests and passions. This enriches the overall student experience and provides ample opportunities for personal growth and development outside of academics. Additionally, Texas State University has a beautiful campus. The San Marcos location is scenic, with the San Marcos River running through the campus and the surrounding Hill Country offering picturesque views. However, there are areas where I believe Texas State University could improve. One area is academic advising and support services. Overall, Texas State University offers a positive college experience with its vibrant campus life, diverse community, and scenic location.
Texas State is a hidden gem among Texas universities. I was initially discouraged from attending and swayed toward more publicly acclaimed universities, which impacted my attitude at the start of my undergraduate program. I was pleasantly surprised to find a challenging yet accommodating academic program, caring and passionate professors (many of whom left self-proclaimed 'toxic' higher universities), and tirelessly supportive financial aid and administrative teams. I was able to graduate in the Honors College with a 4.0 in just 2.5 years with this system, and a fraction of the student debt many graduates are plagued with; something I would not have been likely able to achieve elsewhere.
The majority of my complaints lie with the city of San Marcos itself. Student housing faces an abysmal renter's environment. Additionally, while the university has spent years attempting to leave behind its 'party' stereotype, the students have yet to follow suit, contributing to its lower safety rank.

my first year at Texas State was amazing overall. I stayed in Bexar hall and it was very spacious and comfortable, the only thing is it was cold year-round. my roommate and I had our own bathroom so that was a big plus. While there is lot of walking involved on campus, the classes and professors make up for it. The resources on campus such as the study, writing center, etc. help with adjustments overall as a student. I would also advise you to go to as many school events as you can As there are a lot year-round. Go to career fairs and student organization, fairs to get yourself acquainted and find a organization for yourself to make friends and build connections. When it comes to food, I recommend going to commons for breakfast in Harris for any other meal. The square is such a good place to wind down and so is the river. I recommend making use of the recreation center as well as the library too! Lastly, the party scene is OK, but you always just need to be careful where you go!
