I got a full ride football scholarship to Stony Brook University in 2015. Starting with the official visit, the campus was big, beautiful and easy to get around! Everyone was super helpful when it came to finding classes, I knew all the short cuts thanks to them! The on campus bikes that you can rent allowed you to cross the entire campus with ease. The food at each of the chow halls was delicious and they always had options. There is a train on campus that’s free for students, there was the bar called the bench that was THE spot if you didn’t hear of any parties happening, which was rare. They are so many activities happening ALL the time so it’s super easy to meet new people from all walks of life. Lastly, the campus hospital arguably has the best food on campus. In conclusion, if you’re looking to learn at an IVY league level and still enjoy your student life, Stony Brook is the way to go.

Review Stony Brook University

My experience at Stony Brook University was overall a great one. I was able to partake in student life early on through athletics and clubs. Being involved at the beginning was a great way to make friends and ingratiate myself into the community. I enjoyed the events and student showcases they had on Staller steps, and the food at the Wang center was great! I would like to see different options provided at the dining hall that reach different cultures and backgrounds. I would also like to see more support for people of color within athletics, especially for freshman and sophomores who may be new to the area.

The campus is nice. I've lived on campus for my whole time here. It's too expensive. They force first years to pay for their overpriced meal plan, and the food's not even good. The dorm experience is about the same as any other place, I suppose. There's many clubs, and there are always events going on on campus.
As for academics, you have your fair share of good and bad professors. They have a tutoring center and help rooms for common subjects like math, physics, chemistry, and writing. The few times I've tried studying in the library, it's always been noisy. The "private" rooms you can reserve aren't noise insulated at all. The dividing walls don't even go all the way to the ceiling. You can hear everything the people next to you are doing and saying.
I've heard that getting accomodations is difficult and depends on the instructor, even after going through all the paperwork with the Student Accessibility Support Center. The campus is also not that great for physical disabilities.
