I transferred to Shenandoah University this fall, and have overall had a wonderful experience! I've had so many wonderful and supportive professors, and they genuinely want to see their student's succeed! I enjoy Campus Life, they plan all kinds of activities on campus for students, there are lots of clubs to join, and lots of dining options. The students and faculty are very friendly and make Shenandoah University such a welcoming environment.
I came to Shenandoah for a very specific program, there are only 2 people in the program per year so coming in it was just me and one other student as freshman. The program in the Conservatory is incredible and very personal. The professors are very knowledgable and kind but they will still challenge you. The pianos are nice- if you get into the Steinway Suites but the upright pianos are quite awful. The level of excellence of the other students have is insane. I am a part of the Musical Theatre program and it is so so cool to be able to work with aspiring artists that are so beyond talented. The freshman dorms are nice ONLY if you live in University Inn everything else is pretty gross. The food is so gross but this upcoming year (2024-25) we are getting a new food provider so fingers crossed that it is better. The campus life is nice but it often looks like the school is deserted unless its a prime class time. The campus is gorgeous and there is always a cutesy little spot to sit at.
During my time at Shenandoah University I felt left out, alone, and isolated all the time. Maybe that was my fault. Looking back maybe I should have been more active and involved, on the other hand, there was a certain member of the faculty that made me not want to be active or involved. He made me want to drop out. He was very cruel to me and everyone in my major. My senior year I had a breakdown and had to be hospitalized for a few days. The school played a big role in that situation. I feel like it was all about favoritism and I sadly never made the cut. I was an acting major. Maybe if I had switched to Musical Theatre, I probably would have been a lot happier. Probably. It has been a while since I graduated, so I hope it got better, but I will never recommend this school to anyone.
