Alum: I loved my time at AU and highly recommend it if you are interested in politics or international affairs. I loved the study abroad program as well and spent a semester in Kenya studying public health. You will not like this school if you are looking for a big sports or Greek life scene. If you don’t like discussing politics, you will hate this school. The food has greatly improved the past few years. The freshman dorms are very dated, but the dorms get very nice after freshman year. Internship opportunities are amazing and it is common to intern nearly every semester while in school. Sophomore: University of New Haven has become a part of my academic success since 2022. I was apart of a study abroad program connected to University of New Haven called Verto Education. I was pleased with the great selection of courses offered and the support that was given to me throughout my college career. From academics to student life, I found it relieving to see how well I was able to balance my daily tasks. Due to the great attention paid to me by the administrators, it pushed me to become the best student I can be. Not only has University of New Haven expressed great support, they have also maintained a safe and healthy environment for us all. It has a different pocket for everyone, so definitely pay attention to the themes of the college you’re placed in for housing. My number one recommendation is to do Adventure Rec! As someone who’s been land locked her entire life, I got to go sailing for 3 hours with one other student for $10 because I was a student at UCSC. Even though 6 people signed up, only 2 of us showed that morning so it felt like a private ocean experience. I even got to sit on the helm! Keep signing up for the waitlist and you’ll get a spot! There are usually no big parties and student life is pretty quiet unless you are involved in the various clubs that are hosted here. Parking also gets packed in the commuter lots, however the farthest parking lot to the main building is only a 10 minute walk. Something to add here that I tell a lot of new students is that public safety tends to be strict with their parking permits and policies, so make sure you have a guest pass or a permit! Although it is a small campus, you are provided with beautiful scenery and incredibly convenient placement. If you take a 7 minute drive down the highway, there are supermarkets, restaurants, and clothing stores for your college needs. Junior: I enjoyed my first year of university at TAMIU. I had great professors which I learned a lot from. I could depend on my professors to help me whenever I needed help with an assignment or did not understand a lesson. I also met many great people who have become important in my life. One of my friends was an exchange student from South Korea who became my best friend. Had I not gone to TAMIU, I would've never been able to befriend her. I like the professors in both of my programs and they were great at meeting for help when I asked, even if it was outside of their office hours. Class sizes have been small, which is nice. The Disability Resource Center is amazing! They suggested accommodations I hadn't thought of and got me to first priority registration for my ADHD. I also found the academic resources awesome. I loved using the academic coaching for organizing and would recommend it to anyone needing help. It is the best. For location I also like how close it is to different performing halls, like the Keller Auditorium. However, I do wish that there was a better way to find different guest lectures. Freshman: Finishing up my first year at UVM, I came to a lot of conclusions about my life on campus. Academics wise, they offer a lot of various programs and courses to each student, however, it is extremely difficult to register for these courses, due to the lack of availability and the surplus of students viewing said courses as a priority. Other than that, the professors offered are mostly pretty good, although many of them are biased politically and tend to push an agenda (their agenda). Campus life, on a positive note, is awesome! Campus offers tons of different opportunities for students to stay active ad participate in events with their community. If you like the cold, its definitely for you, so a lot of said events are located inside for most of the year. There's plenty to do off campus as well. I personally loved the skiing up there, as well as Burlington's beautiful downtown area. Overall UVM was great, there's just a few tweaks that need to be worked out academically.... Junior: In my three years being enrolled here at California Lutheran University, I have had an amazing opportunity to be a first-generation student. Not only am I making my parents proud, but I am also setting an example for my sisters and my nephew. As I get closer to the day I walk across that stage, it's unbelievable to me how fast time has passed by. I have always appreciated the smaller sized classes here as I feel like the professors genuinely care about student improvement and can actually get to know us all. I think it's important that we're actually treated like students rather than a number with grading needed. I also appreciate how safe the campus is seeing as campus safety is available 24/7 whether it's general needs or emergency needs.
