Sophomore: Pomona is the best place if you're into a small college environment, down-to-earth really intellectual people, and are open to learn new subjects! I have grown so much in my semesters here, and I feel set up to succeed in the future. The college has free food and events everywhere, and there's always something to do alongside your classes (and, if not, you can always lay out in the beautiful sun). Would highly recommend going on On-The-Loose trips, where you can go on backpacking trips, overnight beach trips, etc. Pomona has been the perfect fit, and I couldn't ask for a better college experience. Alum: Amazing food, great dorms, and professors that changed my whole perspective on life. I got very sick of the institutional bureaucracy but that might have been true at any college I went to. Other students of color -- be very aware that this is a PWI in a major way, it can be VERY isolating and disheartening. If you go here, I encourage you to ask for support and hold your people close. They have a lot of funding opportunities for research projects and individual interest projects. Take advantage of their huge endowment and apply for grants to do things you're interested in! Junior: I’m a junior at Davidson, and I still have absolutely no regret about my decision years later. The campus is stunning and located in a beautiful, quaint town. It is not too far outside of Huntersville, Mooresville, and Cornelius, which all have a lot to do. The food options are great for a small school. We have create own pizza, sushi, hot dog stations, pho, smoothies, burritos, etc. Our campus cafe (Summit) is also incredible with breakfast options and iced coffees. The freshman dorm quality varies but upperclassmen dorms are top notch. D1 sports (esp basketball scene) is hard to come by at a small school. The career services are unmatched. When applying for internships, I feel I always have an advantage just because of all our seminars, workshops, and on-site cover letter and resume editing. Most of all, the PEOPLE and the professors and so flexible and always willing to help. I don’t find that Davidson is competitive. Most professors will prioritize your mental health. COME! :)... It is what you make of it - if you reach out and get involved in things you are 100% going to meet really cool, passionate, and extremely smart people that drive you to be better yourself. Alum: I chose to attend Swarthmore College because they had the best financial aid package which made higher education for a first-gen, low-income student like myself possible. Besides the financial aid, I really enjoyed the small campus community where I developed relationships with my closest friends today as well as met my partner in life. It was at Swarthmore where I realized my dream of becoming a teacher practitioner and scholar which is what I am pursuing post-grad. I am indebted to my professors who were dedicated to scholarship that was aimed at improving educational and livelihood outcomes both on and outside of Swarthmore's campus. I would highly recommend taking classes in the sociology/ anthropology and educational studies department. Sophomore: I really love it here and am glad that I decided on Wellesley! I'm class of 2026, so I've been on campus for about two years now and each year, I've been able to meet some of the best professors and even better people. Conversations with peers are just as nuanced as the people and although the campus could still do with some diversity, I think we're definitely on the better end (I say this as a half Black and half-Asian student from a very predominantly white town). I've found that it's really easy to make friends because the campus and class sizes are so small (that being said, I'm also more extroverted). However, even my more introverted friends have said that they were eventually able to find close friends as their first or second year progressed -- the key is to be involved in campus or go to events and intentionally talk to people and reach out.... Junior: Middlebury college is the perfect place for you if you are outdoors-oriented, open-minded, and "liberal artsy". The course offerings are sometimes limited but overall the quality of education has been great, in my opinion. The strong language programs and the international programs have been a big plus for me. Alum: I loved my time at W&L. That school helped me grow into the person I am today. The small classes allowed me to have one-on-one time with my professors, many of whom I still speak with to this day. My friends and classmates continue to support me post grad, and the alumni network has been very accessible as I have applied to graduate programs. The school was very safe -- the only time we had a public safety announcement was when there was a bear on the outskirts of campus (living in the mountains has its perks and drawbacks). W&L is in a very very small town -- which I loved -- but may not be for everyone. I felt the academics were challenging but not impossible, and professors were accessible when I had questions. The school is not as diverse as other schools, and is more diverse than it gets credit for. There is a lot of geographic diversity -- very few students are from Virginia -- as well as wealth diversity. Most students are on some scholarship. I'd highly recommend W&L.... Read 475 reviews

Junior: The most significant part of my time at Amherst is the people. They make what might seem monotonous, day-to-day life in Western MA an extremely fun and unique experience. Some aspects of Amherst such as the dining or housing leaves things to be desired. I know the new student center and dining hall is set to open in a couple years, but that has certainly been a big negative as someone with dietary restrictions. Also, housing, especially for sophomores, is particularly bad although it has gotten better as the wave of students who took a gap semester/year due to covid have graduated. Senior: Overall, Macalester offers a great liberal arts education. Most notably, the quality of teaching stood out the most for me because (most) professors sought out unique methods of assessment that I felt enhanced my ability to learn and engage with material. Second, the student culture here is really down to Earth. There is wealth here but I feel like it was not overwhelming to adjust to as a low income minority. The school is kind of diverse but the black student population is very very small. Party scene is okay until the winter, then it’s bad (more small intimate stuff). Tons of students get research opportunities through the school and/or neighboring UMN so don’t let research access be a turn off. Food is terrible. Junior: My experience at Haverford College has been wonderful. The Honor Code definitely plays a huge role with this. I have always felt safe walking at night on campus and am able to leave my belongings without fear it of it being taken. I feel as though I can approach my professors when I need support or accommodations and have never been turned down. It's clear that most people here respect others, faculty and the space around them (of course exceptions exist like anywhere else but are a small minority). Generally, I would say, the student population is happy, motivated, and eager to help others. Unlike Swarthmore or other selective colleges, students are collaborative, laid back, yet still strive to maintain academic excellence. Rather than only focusing on grades, Haverford students are eager to learn and contribute to the community. Sophomore: Wesleyan University is an amazing school. The people here are all passionate about something and are incredibly driven towards their goals. You will see people on campus filming short films, dancing in three different groups at the same time, and people tutoring in the writing center, local schools, and more. The professors are all incredibly knowledgeable and understanding, so I have enjoyed all my classes, even those unrelated to my major. Middletown is just a regular suburban town, but compared to the other NESCACs, it's one of the more fun towns/places. Also, in case you are on financial aid, you will get a nice amount of aid (this was my cheapest option!). There is always stuff to do on campus, whether it is a movie night at the film center, dances and concerts, or a party! It's literally just the Goldilocks school. Junior: Truly a wonderful experience if you like a small environment. Academics vary from major to major, as there are many visiting professors who only teach one or two classes, and consistency of class offerings also vary major to major. But, the open curriculum allows you to explore so much without making any firm commitments until your second year. Concentrations are an amazing way to add to your academic profile because they provide some serious practical resume-building experience and can bridge your various majors, minors, or interests. As for housing and campus life: housing is amazing if you know how to work the system. The lottery every year is stressful, but most rooms are big and beautiful (even singles!). Food is subpar but there are so many options every day that you can just go to the dining hall with the meal you like. The campus is stunning and there are many, many, many places to cozy up and study, warm or cold weather alike. I have really loved my experience at Smith so far.... Read 925 reviews
