Sophomore: Rice University is a great school for all-rounders—people who have more than one passion in life and want to explore all these passions together. They emphasize this even in the more intensive majors. They also focus on creating a socially healthy atmosphere for students by allowing student leaders to have a say in campus policies, as well as providing, funding, and promoting social events on campus. They truly cultivate a close-knit community from the start with orientation week and your "o-week" family, whom you will meet with weekly during your first year. There are a lot of peer-led activities and peer leadership opportunities so students can receive help and perspectives from their peers on matters that affect them. Overall all I can say is that if you want a school that challenges you in all facets of your life while also looking after and prioritizing your mental, social, and physical well being that Rice is the best university to meet all those needs.... Sophomore: I really love the city of Austin! The "weirdness" of Austin jumps out at you in the best way. The countless times I've gone to the groovy thrift stores or south Congress Ave with friends have been some of the best moments of my young life. The culture at UT is one of a kind as well. I feel that every person attending college feels a certain amount of pride in their school, like its a part of their identity almost. With UT its that and then some. Being from Maryland, experiencing the lone star state has been otherworldly. The pride in Texans and in the school is like no other, and it has certainly rubbed of on me. Though I am only a sophomore I am a Longhorn though and through! On top of the great city, the larger than life students, the sports and the like, UT is an academic institution first. Classes can be tough, and you feel it. Having to juggle social life with the grueling curriculum is something I had to work very hard for and still haven't quite got the hang of yet.... Graduate Student: This was a great school to attend! There were so many traditions to participate in and the people that you met were so friendly. Academics were great too, the professors are easy to work with and they come with so much knowledge to pass on to their students. I was attending school when Covid occurred and instead of giving up, my program professors and the university adapted to the change and turned everything to online and still continued to teach great things. I was in the special education program, where our program thrives on live human interaction. Sophomore: I am the first to go to a university on both sides of my hispanic family. I honestly did not know what to expect at first I had mixed feelings since I knew no one at Tech. During welcome week I grew familiar of the campus, fond of the people, and a sense of belonging and school pride. I loved my first year! I was able to study in multiple areas on campus, attend supplemental instruction and gain more practice and reaffirm me knowledge of the material in class. I found out the best way I retain material and what study habits worked best for me. Overall, I have only a few things I would change. I had a roomate issue which escalated and it was reported multiple times, but housing took a while to resolve the issue. Junior: UHCL (University of Houston-Clear Lake) is an amazing and beautiful campus. I am in my second semester here, and I do not regret coming to this campus. The professors are so nice and understanding. I am in an education major, and I am so glad to have the support I need from my professor and advisor. I have joined a few different organizations, which has helped me grow as a person and helped me come out of my shell. I am an Orientation leader, secretary of TSTA (Texas State Teachers Association), and HLI (Hawk Leadership Institute). The environment here is an added bonus to my education. There are so many different beautiful animals that live around the campus. I love going on walks on the trails and relaxing after a long day of classes. The one thing I would like to see more on campus is more events and organizations for education majors. Junior: I am currently a student at the University of the Incarnate Word and I truly love this school. I am in the nursing program there and overall it has been such an amazing experience so far. I did most of my prerequisites there and they went well. Like any course, what you put in is what you will get out, and I feel that at UIW, by doing this, you can do well. The professors vary, but most of the ones I have had are outstanding! They care about their students and want to help each student do the best they can. Now being in a specific program, I can say that even though the work load changes, most of the professors stay focused on UIW's mission to help students and be supportive and inspiring throughout your time there. I lived in the dorms for my first two years there and the experience was great for the most part. Junior: I enjoyed my first year of university at TAMIU. I had great professors which I learned a lot from. I could depend on my professors to help me whenever I needed help with an assignment or did not understand a lesson. I also met many great people who have become important in my life. One of my friends was an exchange student from South Korea who became my best friend. Had I not gone to TAMIU, I would've never been able to befriend her. I often liked to study on campus because the place made for such a great environment! To see other students studying for midterms and finals ignited motivation and lessened my procrastination. I was surrounded by great, self-driven, and like-minded individuals who pushed me to improve and want to learn more in my classes. I loved that TAMIU was surrounded by nature, especially when I felt stressed due to exams. One look at the nature around me mellowed me and helped me gather my senses to keep working hard!
