Sophomore: Princeton University is certainly an academically rigorous college. It attracts students who hold themselves to high standards which, due to grade deflation, adds to the stress of most students. The campus is beautiful in the more historic part of campus. The newer buildings are very clean and there are several food options. I don’t ever feel the need to snack with the amount of options I have in the undergraduate meal plan. Many of the student organizations are wonderful and everyone is very passionate about their field. It is certainly not an athletic school but alumni are extremely passionate about Princeton pride.... Senior: My experience so far at Rutgers has been pretty good overall, but I have experienced a few bumps. I love the wide range of academic courses and the many research opportunities that allowed me to pursue my passions. Socializing was made easy by the welcoming community and active campus life. However, managing administrative tasks can be time-consuming and a big class can sometimes feel cold. Parking is a pain! Rutgers's bus system is sometimes a hassle. On-campus housing quality is unpredictable. Despite these challenges, I've had a useful and enjoyable time at the university thanks to its modern facilities, convenient location, and sometimes useful transportation system. Junior: Stevens is challenging, but not overwhelming. Students are dedicated to success; if they aren't, they don't last long. My career counselors have been amazing. Professors are very accessible. Workshops for questions tutoring are very valuable. You can live on-campus or very close nearby in Hoboken, NJ. There are college-associated apartment buildings off campus and rent qualifies in your financial aid package. The campus is about a ten-minute PATH Train ride from New York City. It's amazing but expensive. Make sure you budget. Many students are from New Jersey and they go home for the weekend. It can be very quiet. Sophomore: The College of New Jersey feels like my home away from home. Despite the living conditions being less than desirable during my freshman year, getting to wake up and experience entire days on campus has been very rewarding and fulfilling to me. I have made countless connections through classes, activities, and more and I hope to continue doing so in the years to come. The opportunities continue to expand with every passing day which is incredibly exciting to me. I believe more opportunities could be seized over the weekends on campus to plan events, however. TCNJ does host its fair share of events that involve both students and those outside of the campus community, but at the moment there does not seem to be enough to keep the majority of students from returning back home almost every weekend. The campus has a food pantry that the students can shop from to decrease food insecurity. They have all sorts of clubs to make everyone feel welcome. They recognize student's achievements and make sure that it doesn't go unnoticed. What I would like to see changed is the dining hall food. It could be way better and more seasoned. I would like them to have different milk options for those who are lactose intolerant. Although they have almond milk it doesn't taste very nice with cereal. I would like them to have more options and the food to be fresh. I would also want to say there is a lack of eating restaurants on campus. Graduate Student: Rowan university was overall a pretty good experience for me. The tour I took in my Junior year of high school made the decision a lot easier since my Admissions Ambassador was great, very welcoming and engaging, and pretty knowledgeable. Above all, she was authentic and I enjoyed being able to see an actual student's experience with the college. Parking is atrocious, and the administration can do better with instruction and information spreading, but the overall experience wasn't bad. I had mostly good professors that I knew I could reach out to if I was struggling. Sure, there are one or two that I never want to interact with again, but there are so many more that I would love to talk to and have a class with again! Professor Tim Donaldson is probably my favorite teacher, though Professor Ron Block and Professor Megan Atwood are close seconds! Junior: So far, my experience at William Paterson has treated me greatly. I have made many great friends along the way, some of which I consider my family away from home. I like how small the campus and it feels like a small community that allows you to get a taste of adulthood. Everyone knows everyone on campus. However, with all its highs, William Paterson has its lows. For starters, there are a lot of people on campus who can be loud and obnoxious at times. I tend to just tone them out. I've heard about a couple minor altercations on campus but I haven't been involved in any of them. I tend to stick to myself and my group. In addition, the food can be very mediocre or it can be very good. There's no consistency to the food on campus. The education is amazing, I enjoy learning more about coding and computer hardware because I can apply it to my everyday computer issues. There are usually no big parties and student life is pretty quiet unless you are involved in the various clubs that are hosted here. Parking also gets packed in the commuter lots, however the farthest parking lot to the main building is only a 10 minute walk. Something to add here that I tell a lot of new students is that public safety tends to be strict with their parking permits and policies, so make sure you have a guest pass or a permit! Although it is a small campus, you are provided with beautiful scenery and incredibly convenient placement. If you take a 7 minute drive down the highway, there are supermarkets, restaurants, and clothing stores for your college needs. Junior: The biggest change many would like to see is the way administration runs the school, especially the debt Rider is facing. I can't speak too deeply on the subject, so I recommend prospective students do research before committing because I was unaware of the issue before attending. I believe the administration should ensure they're debt-free soon, as it impacts the trust between the students and the Adminsitration. I also want to see some big changes in the environmental aspects. Rider has done great work towards its Net-Zero by 2050 goal, but they can go further. Food waste, clean energy, all these things could be improved upon. As for what I like, I like how the campus is involved with each other. Numerous clubs cover a wide range of interests, allowing students to find their niche within Rider and easily connect to others. Greek life is also a huge part of the culture on campus.
