Sophomore: Entering college, I was head-over-heels excited to attend my dream school: University of Michigan. What I did not realize were the many factors that came along with starting this new path of life -- living away from home, party culture, the football game frenzy, endless schoolwork, and the underlying pressure of having to make connections and network with others. Although these aspects seemed as though they were going to slowly but surely destroy me, I found great solace in studying (and the occasional bi-weekly matcha latte from Sweetwaters:)). The vast amount of resources in any field from ballet to biochemistry was something truly unique and a gift for someone interested in a multidisciplinary career like me. Further the research opportunities available to even first year students were abundant in every field. Sophomore: An awesome school for those who love the outdoors and being close to everything on campus. All of the academic buildings on campus are within a 15 minute walk from my dorm, making getting to class very convenient even when the weather isn't great. The people I've met here are incredible, and the professors are extremely welcoming and available to help you with whatever questions or general advice you may want to ask about. As the school isn't located in or near a major city, there isn't a huge variety of stores or restaurants close by, but the students here make due with what we have pretty well. As for the nature scene; there is a wide variety of outdoor activities to take part in while living in this gorgeous part of the country - from skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and dog-sledding in the snow to mountain biking, camping, hiking, swimming, running, and more - whenever you feel like it! Alum: Couldn't recommend Hope enough for any high school student. I graduated this past May and am extremely grateful for my time at the college. The professors are the most caring, wonderful people (especially in the Chem department, but I may be biased) and I couldn't imagine a better support system throughout college. The stores were nice to go out and get a break from studying or get snacks from, but there is just not a lot to choose from. I went to the recreation center and I really enjoyed being able to go and swim or workout to become a healthier person. I personally didn't dislike anything besides the loud dorm for me. The food was good in the beginning but became okay because of how much I was eating it. Maybe there could be more food rotation options. Freshman: As of now, Kettering University has been an incredible experience for me. Before I even enrolled, what attracted me to this school was its co-op program, which provides students a paid, hands-on work experience in their respective major in addition to what they learn in classroom. Another reason this school heavily appealed to me was that it's heavily STEM-oriented, and I knew I would get the suitable education here in pursuit of a STEM career (and in turn, a worthwhile return on investment). Here, there is a place for everyone, which is reflected in the large number of clubs, events, and extracurricular activities. So far, I've had the most fun participating in Kettering's Intramural Volley Team (despite never playing organized volleyball before). Alum: I had a very unique experience at Albion College. I was one of the only students in the history of the school to have double-majored in the two programs I had while also playing a sport. Most of the time, I really enjoyed everything I was involved in, but there were also quite a few headaches that came with forcing two very different departments to work with one another for scheduling and course-load. I had professors who ranged from unbelievably great and influential to my life's trajectory to ones who seemed to not care about teaching or their students much at all. Most were on the better end of the spectrum, but unfortunately a few core, in-major courses were taught by a professor who didn't care or want to be there very much. Even in those times though, I still was able to make the most of my situation, and I learned a lot about how to seek out and learn material on my own if I had to.
