Junior: There are many very passionate and engaging professors who do their best to bring the most out of their students. I think there are a lot of really great people at Emory, however, I do believe there's an issue with how academics and success are viewed among students, which can create a slightly toxic or superficial learning environment. Freshman: Athens, Georgia, the home of the University of Georgia, remains a fond memory in my heart. Athens is not too big of a city to get lost in, but not so small that it gets boring. There's always events taking place on campus, and Saturdays in Athens are some nobody should ever miss! The students here are willing to talk to you, and the campus makes it easy to bump into each other often. Amidst all these wonderful attributes that makes UGA so special--not to mention the great weather--I believe the housing situation needs to be updated. They are working on renovating certain dorms over the summer, so perhaps the housing situation may be better for the incoming class of 2024. The university also needs to address the parking situation because thousands of students are without a parking permit on the campus and have to park illegally due to lack of parking spaces. Sophomore: This is a great school for people who are something between an extrovert and an introvert. There are always events happening around campus, so you won't be bored, unless you are a big party/big school person. Mercer is peaceful, but a tight-knit community. Everyone will know you, but that's not a bad thing. It is not hard to stand out, so you will be recognized for your efforts. Professors are incredible and extremely down-to-earth, making you feel welcome and providing excellent opportunities. They care about their students. Here, you won't just be a student, you'll be a colleague. The area isn't very walkable, but the campus is beautiful and always being renewed. Diversity is also a 10/10, as there are quite a few international students around. Sophomore: Everything at Augusta University was as expected with any university. Their campus and student life is very fulfilling; there are a lot of events happening everyday. I would only recommend to be ahead of everything dealing with Housing/Academic Development. Augusta University’s housing becomes very limited some years, so it is important to be one of the first to apply when the housing portal opens. This is the same with registering for classes. The registration portal crashes often so I would leave the tab open in advance to make registration stress-free. Also, it is important to make sure you research your major’s curriculum beforehand, as academic advisors do not always have time to individually focus on your needs. Junior: Overall, my experience at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW), for almost the past three years, have been very eye-opening. Senior: The staff are amazing. Helpful, responsive, and intentional. The facilities are well kept up (Except for occasional malfunctions in housing, but if you take action, it's usually fixed quickly) especially considering the age of the buildings. The classes are good and you can expect to be challenged and learn a lot. There are two primary difficulties. While back office staff (FA, Registrar, Business, Admissions) mean well and are usually very kind, they don't communicate well to students or amongst themselves so there are often instances where there are charges that one department says should be there and another says to not worry about, which is an issue. Student life is also tricky. The events are well organised, but the school has such a large athlete and commuter population, both groups of which keep mostly to themselves, that events are small and the campus is mostly empty on weekends due to the large local-student population. Freshman: How my time was at Columbus State University overall it was a great experience. I have not yet had a chance to see the whole campus, but my orientation was outstanding! Columbus State University orientation was a great way to find what major I will be studying, and where most of my classes will be. I got to meet some of my professors and my advisors for my next school year. What I like most about Columbus State University is the diverse programs it has for their students. It is a small school so you will be able to get to talk and know your professors on a deeper level so they can help you boost your career. It has many amazing programs like SAC, (Student Active Counsil) blue kappa, and many more. I feel like Columbus State University is a welcoming place where you can be yourself and bloom into a better person. Freshman: I love Oglethorpe University, it is a very diverse, small university that makes you feel at home. I personally loved the dance team which I was fortunate enough to be on. Other few things I loved about the university was the campus. It is very big and beautiful and once you know where your classes are you would not get lost at all. Everyone there is very welcoming and friendly and would help you if you need it. The faculty is very understanding about all things and the professors are very lenient with their students. The clubs at Oglethorpe is amazing, it is very easy to be involved and there is always something for someone to do. I am a commuter so I don’t have much experience on the dinning hall food. I very much love the location of the campus, it is very safe and peaceful so if I would need to do homework I could always go outside and do that. There is also a grocery store and fast food places nearby so that is very convenient. Overall Oglethorpe University is amazing! :)... Read 613 reviews
