Sophomore: Entering college, I was head-over-heels excited to attend my dream school: University of Michigan. What I did not realize were the many factors that came along with starting this new path of life -- living away from home, party culture, the football game frenzy, endless schoolwork, and the underlying pressure of having to make connections and network with others. Although these aspects seemed as though they were going to slowly but surely destroy me, I found great solace in studying (and the occasional bi-weekly matcha latte from Sweetwaters:)). The vast amount of resources in any field from ballet to biochemistry was something truly unique and a gift for someone interested in a multidisciplinary career like me. Further the research opportunities available to even first year students were abundant in every field. In terms of housing, it is frustrating that some first-year dorms are naturally better/modern, due to the year that they were built (like Muir), so I'm hoping to see future improvements in those dorms. Additionally, the party scene of this school is not the best, especially compared to its neighboring schools. Considering the school canceled Sun God this year, I can't say it was the best. Regardless, I would say I enjoyed this year, as the location and free public transport allows students to explore San Diego and take advantage of what it has to offer. While I feel that it is intimidating to join one of these groups and I have not yet joined one, I plan to soon. One thing I would like to see a change in is housing. Off campus housing is so incredibly expensive and the dorms are not available for every student as they are overcrowded and most are dirty. Sophomore: Overall, I think that Dakota State University is a great school to attend. The professors are very flexible and helpful when it comes to their coursework. Though the campus may be a little small, the students and facility are nice and are always willing to help you. I enjoy the connections that you can make to some of the facilities and other students because since it is a small campus, it is pretty easy to make friends and keep those connections since you see them quite often throughout campus. Another thing I enjoy is the walking distance between the buildings throughout campus because it only takes about 5 minutes to walk through DSU, so you don't have to rush to class and you can enjoy the scenery or talk to friends on the way to class. Some changes I would like to see are the activities that occur throughout campus because it does get boring pretty quickly on campus, but Sioux Falls is only an hour away which is nice to get away from campus for a couple hours.... Alum: I loved the layout of the college, it was easy to find and surrounded by other colleges in the neighborhood. The neighborhood itself was also easily accessible and in an area where it was easy to find food, convenience store, shop, and take public transit. The security on campus was fantastic, you can’t get into campus without swiping your ID and they kept the campus fairly clean as well. There were so many spaces for students to relax in, ie: classrooms, benches, couches, etc. I wish I participated in groups and side activities a lot more but because I was a commuter, I focused mainly on classes. They did advertise many social clubs and groups fairly well and the professors were also well versed in their fields so it was easy to learn from their previous experiences and benefitted class discussions a lot more....
