They emphasize this even in the more intensive majors. They also focus on creating a socially healthy atmosphere for students by allowing student leaders to have a say in campus policies, as well as providing, funding, and promoting social events on campus. They truly cultivate a close-knit community from the start with orientation week and your "o-week" family, whom you will meet with weekly during your first year. There are a lot of peer-led activities and peer leadership opportunities so students can receive help and perspectives from their peers on matters that affect them. Sophomore: Entering college, I was head-over-heels excited to attend my dream school: University of Michigan. What I did not realize were the many factors that came along with starting this new path of life -- living away from home, party culture, the football game frenzy, endless schoolwork, and the underlying pressure of having to make connections and network with others. I think that community is something that Vanderbilt does well, as everyone is so collaborative and kind! I think what needs to change is the Chancellor's office needs to hear student voices. Junior: I’m a junior at Davidson, and I still have absolutely no regret about my decision years later. The campus is stunning and located in a beautiful, quaint town. It is not too far outside of Huntersville, Mooresville, and Cornelius, which all have a lot to do. The food options are great for a small school. We have create own pizza, sushi, hot dog stations, pho, smoothies, burritos, etc. Our campus cafe (Summit) is also incredible with breakfast options and iced coffees. The freshman dorm quality varies but upperclassmen dorms are top notch. D1 sports (esp basketball scene) is hard to come by at a small school. The career services are unmatched. When applying for internships, I feel I always have an advantage just because of all our seminars, workshops, and on-site cover letter and resume editing. Most of all, the PEOPLE and the professors and so flexible and always willing to help. I don’t find that Davidson is competitive. Most professors will prioritize your mental health. COME! :)...
