Sophomore: I absolutely love going to Umass Amherst! I always thought that I would have a hard time adapting to and making friends in college but after only one year at this school I can't wait to go back, I have an amazing group of friends, I love my classes, I love the food and I couldn't be happier. I have never had to wonder if I chose the right school because I can't even begin to imagine myself anywhere else. On the other hand, I would love to see a change in the dorms on campus, many of the rooms are utterly tiny especially compared to the majority of other schools plus many rooms that are barely big enough for two people are being forced triples or quads. Sophomore: Personally, I was afraid of coming to VT at first. I come from a very diverse city area, so going to a PWI in the middle of no where was very scary for me. Overall, I learned that VT is way more diverse than I expected and everyone is very nice. There is always something to do on campus and when discussing with my friends, we do actually have way better food than most universities and colleges. The academics, especially the math department can be frustrating and hard, but I think this is a given for any type of higher education. Being at VT has honestly been my best experience of education so far, and I've met some friends along the way who I believe are life long. Freshman: St. John Fisher University has been a great experience for me so far! If you are looking to become a nurse, Fisher's nursing program is amazing! Alum: I had a great experience at JMU. I was a kinesiology major and all the professors were amazing! definitely felt cared for by my professors and they were always willing to take the time to answer my many questions. As for general education professors, they could be hit or miss, but overall very attentive to the student's education. I was never into the party scene, but that is big here with greek and non-greek life. There is always a party going on, if you are into that, and other campus events on the weekends or club events. Sports are getting bigger here since we have entered the Sunbelt league. Once you find the right community, this place will feel like home. Whether that is a club you join, academic peers, or an outside community, there is something for everyone. I started at JMU the year before COVID hit, so I was all in-person and then all online. Freshman: USD is a really great school, but applicants should keep in mind that it is a private Catholic institution. From my experience, there are not a lot of queer students, or at least they're hard to find. As a queer student, it is hard finding that community sometimes. However, I haven't had any bad professor experiences and the campus is beautiful. It is very difficult to get places though as you can't really walk anywhere and rideshare services are expensive. There is also no food on campus that is not University food, so be prepared to be sick of the ~five restaurants you can choose from. Some housing is awesome, some isn't. Do your research before applying to live in specific areas! Overall though, it has been a very welcoming environment and I've never felt unsafe on campus. Freshman: Athens, Georgia, the home of the University of Georgia, remains a fond memory in my heart. Athens is not too big of a city to get lost in, but not so small that it gets boring. There's always events taking place on campus, and Saturdays in Athens are some nobody should ever miss! The students here are willing to talk to you, and the campus makes it easy to bump into each other often. Amidst all these wonderful attributes that makes UGA so special--not to mention the great weather--I believe the housing situation needs to be updated. They are working on renovating certain dorms over the summer, so perhaps the housing situation may be better for the incoming class of 2024. The university also needs to address the parking situation because thousands of students are without a parking permit on the campus and have to park illegally due to lack of parking spaces. Other: I am a parent of a current student and have another one who will attend in the fall. We could not be happier with our experience at UD! Our child is thriving academically, the classes are challenging him in ways he did not expect, but support is there if needed. The experiential learning opportunities, internships and study abroad programs are exceptional. Our son has enjoyed club and intramural sports, including tennis, volleyball and basketball. Family weekend is wonderful- so much to see and do, and it is an incredibly welcoming community. In fact, if you mention Dayton to just about anyone you will hear the word ‘community’ over and over, because it is true. Housing is unique- first year dorms are pretty typical, second year are either suites or on campus apartments, and third and fourth year students are eligible to live in the famous ‘neighborhood’, houses owned and maintained by the university. Junior: Muhlenberg College is a small but lovely undergraduate liberal arts college. The campus itself is a bit small, but that has always been a positive to me because I like the personable nature of the school. Also, everything is within walking distance, which makes commute to class/events pretty easy. The dining hall is ranked number one in PA, and very highly nationally as well, so the food is one of the major positives of the campus. In terms academics, Muhlenberg has a very strong theater program, though they are well staffed in other fields as well, providing a plethora of different majors and minors to students. The professors are great and work really hard to foster an inclusive environment. They are always happy to meet with you outside of class, and the small class sizes allow you to build more personal relationships with peers and instructors, which is ultimately one of my favorite aspects of the school. Alum: I'm glad I went to WashU for my undergraduate education. Academically, it was tough, particularly for STEM majors. Many of the intro science courses were difficult and needed to be graded on a curve (we called them "weed-out" classes because they weeded out pre-med students who weren't serious about their grades). However, student life was wonderful and there were so many activities, opportunities, and resources on campus. The student housing and food options were all fantastic. Junior: Overall I am grateful for my time at RISD so far. I am enrolled as an undergrad architecture student which often feels like a separate school from the rest of the majors, but In general, the architecture professors are very knowledgeable and are active practicing architects/engineers. It may not be worth coming to RISD due to one's financial situation, but if you do end up attending, the best part of RISD is constantly being surrounded by creative people who care about their work and care to hear about you and what you make....
