Massachusetts Institute of Technology Reviews
Rating 4.17 out of 5 667 reviews
My experience has greatly exceeded my already-high expectations. My professors have always been available and the opportunity to apply my studies and skills to research projects was great. My fellow student are good people and everyone in have met has some kind of truly unique capability. I have learned that being in the top 99% of GPA and test scores is great, but I routinely meet people in the top 99.5% and they seem many times smarter than me. Being around people like this keep me humble and motived. I like party scene, as I can alway find something fun to do whenever time allows. I also like that most of my colleagues are not trying to 'look' smart...and anyone who would try this would soon find that someone right next to them is many time more capable. I really like this place.
This is a great university for expanding your horizons, especially if you are from a small area. The initial year gives a lot of freedom for exploring options for your major, and there are great support systems from both students and administration that help adjust to being an MIT student. There are plenty of readily available resources in various departments that allow for personal or academic exploration without having to worry about cost.
MIT has great academics. It’s located near Boston so it is around a lot of places and other colleges. However the weather is scuffed. Also MIT’s campus is um…. Not pretty (to say the least). You definitely have to go out of your way to find fun things on campus— fun does not come to you. Some students have a hard time at MIT, especially mentally. Personally I’m not in tune with my emotions enough to let MIT get me down, but it’s very common at such a school.
