The diverse campus community has made here a unique place to learn at and I love it here! The professors are knowledgeable and passionate, always willing to help me succeed. I major in Biology with a minor in psychology, a full time student while working, and my teachers are very understanding. The campus features modern buildings like Tamiami which I will be living in next month, lush green spaces, and a welcoming atmosphere. You'll find various academic buildings, student centers, and recreational facilities all within walking distance. The campus also has dining options, study spots, and even a beautiful lake where you can relax and unwind, which I often do on Sundays. I've had the chance to join some amazing student organizations like the Haitian Student Union as a dance coordinator, which has helped me build lasting friendships and develop my leadership skills. Overall, FIU has provided me with a well-rounded education and unforgettable experiences so far.
Your better off, going to another school. If you go here you will be taken advantage of and seen as just a number. They will attempt to scam you in a multitude of ways including PARKING, vending, any on school activity, and countless of other things. Most of the employees here are air heads and don't put any effort into their classes. All of these lectures are just self taught lessons and I could've completed this curriculum in high school. This campus layout needs to be ENTIRELY redone. Whoever runs the architecture school, needs to be reconsidered because half of the stuff here doesn't work. I have had a very miserable living experience too. Including being kicked out of UA because of Mold and water coming up from the floor. Also I had roomates that were people of suspicion and nobody took action to my complaints. Lastly, in my last living situation I had water leaking from under my sink and lights that constantly flicker. This place is a hot mess! If you are committed here good luck
FIU has its qualities academically, but it is a predatory school. I have been summarily screwed out of thousands of dollars for being an out of state student who qualified for in-state tuition, but because after I had lived independently in Florida for over a year, then moved into an off campus apartment that qualified as student housing, I did not qualify for in-state reassignment. The moment you graduate, ALL of your student resources are removed. If you have health appointments through the school, if you have reimbursement pending, if you have medical exemptions you qualify for, you will lose access to them immediately. There is also an ongoing investigation into a professor that an active PhD student is being hounded about, with administration actively trying to trick into saying things that are untrue and incriminating.
Some professors care and it shows. The rest of the school wants your money and cares only so far as they can squeeze their students for all they're worth.
