What I like about DePaul is their cybersecurity program and the resources they have to help you with it. The professors I have taken for those classes have been great and were able to provide me with a lot of resources in order to help me improve on my skills. The study abroad programs are also great as I have already done two short term ones, one being in my freshmen year which is for students in their first year of college to be able to study abroad and I just did my second one this summer. Some things I would want them to improve upon is giving more funding for their cybersecurity program which is known for being great but feels like it gets less attention compared to some of their other programs. As well as having more options for long term study abroad programs for cybersecurity majors instead of having them save up space in their liberal arts elective courses to be able to do the other long term programs.
In my time at DePaul, I have yet to take a class I genuinely dread, even those far outside of my area of study. I've found the academic aspects of the school to be very engaging, and most professors are mindful of why students are taking their classes. In the beginning, I worried about non-major classes I was taking to fulfill a requirement, but those professors are consistently very forgiving.
The school does have educational shortcomings, especially as it pertains to any diverse subject. A lot of classes in the ABD department for instance are rarely taught, and their professors are nudged to teach the material in a certain more palatable way.
The housing on campus is fine, but not built to accommodate the student body. The school's decision to tear down housing to make room for athletics facilities doesn't help either. The administration is also very willing to ignore the wishes of students at times of unrest, like the security issue near the end of 2023 or the encampment of 2024.
