Syracuse, N.Y. — Eight of the top 25 lottery retailers in Central New York in 2023 were Wegmans stores, according to the New York State Gaming Commission.
That was the most of any chain in a five-county region of Central New York including Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties.
Only one other chain, Price Chopper, had even two locations in the top 25.
The top lottery retailer in the region last year was A.L.T. Fuel & Food on South Salina Street in Syracuse. The gas station-convenience store sold more than $2.5 million in lottery tickets in 2023, including both scratch-off and draw games.
The No. 2 location on the list was the Fairmount Wegmans, which sold more than $2.4 million in lottery tickets last year.

Syracuse.com obtained the data on lottery sales through a Freedom of Information Law request to the Gaming Commission.
Statewide, the biggest lottery retailers last year were largely in Downstate New York.
The retailer with the highest sales total in all of New York in 2023 was Smoke 4 Less in Newburgh in Orange County. The shop had total lottery sales of more than $195 million last year.
The highest-ranking Upstate New York lottery retailer last year was the Wegmans on Mt. Read Boulevard in Rochester. The store had total sales of more than $6 million and ranked No. 14 in the state.
