There may be a few more Florida Panthers fans in Western New York after Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch took a cheap shot at the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.
Knoblauch, in a meeting with the media, was asked if the Florida Panthers’ Stanley Cup experience gave them an edge over the Oilers ahead of game one. The Panthers appeared in last year’s Stanley Cup finals against the Las Vegas Golden Knights, but fell four games to one.
In response to the question, the Bills somehow took a shot from the coach.
“Yeah, experience is good,” Knoblauch noted. “I don’t know how much experience is beneficial. You can ask the Buffalo Bills how important Super Bowl experience is.”
Ouch.
Knoblauch, of course, was referencing the Bills teams that went to four consecutive Super Bowls in the early 1990s, but failed to win any of the games. While Knoblauch is right about experience not being everything it seems as though Buffalo took an unnecessary cheap shot from the Oilers head coach.
In addition to the cheap shot from Knoblauch, fans in Buffalo may end up pulling for the Panthers as the team features many former Sabres. Sam Reinhart and Kyle Okposo are the most recognizable names among the former Sabres on the Panthers’ roster, but they are not alone. Evan Rodrigues, Brandon Montour and Rasmus Asplund are also former members of the Sabres.
The Stanley Cup finals will begin on Saturday, June 8.
