Orchard Park, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills guard Richie Incognito is now a free agent.

The team released the veteran guard from the reserve/retired list on Monday, just over a month after Incognito announced his retirement on Twitter.

"You know, not really going to get into details," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said when Incognito retired. "Richie is on the reserved/retired list, which is not a part of our 90-man roster. That's really where we're at."

Now that the Bills have released Incognito, the 34-year old is free to sign with another team if he decides to come out of retirement. Before retiring, Incognito fired his agent in a tweet, seemingly unhappy about the pay cut he took when agreeing to a restructured contract earlier this offseason.

Incognito also tweeted at the Bills, joking that his retirement was short lived and that he would be at the start of the team's voluntary conditioning program. He did not show up. He then tweeted at the Bills asking for a release from his contract and told them to contact Athletes First, the agency he had previously fired, for further updates. Incognito has not tweeted since April 15.

By releasing Incognito, the Bills lose the right to recoup any bonus money they could have gone after. Incognito previously cited health reasons as the reason he was retiring.

"I'm done, I'm done, that's it," Incognito told The Buffalo News. "It's been a long career. My liver and kidneys are shutting down. Nothing I can't restore with some balance, but the stress is killing me."

Whether this latest development will lead to Incognito being on an NFL roster in 2018 remains to be seen. But he now has the option of playing outside of Buffalo, where he spent the last three seasons of his career.
