The new television drama “Pan Am” (reviewed by Nancy Franklin in this week’s issue) picks up on the nostalgic style of “Mad Men” and gives us the occasion to look back at the collaborations between airlines and Madison Avenue. This selection of mid-twentieth-century ads takes us from the post-war exuberance of expanding air travel (“coast to coast, border to border”) to the cool elegance of the jet age.
