Woman 'Wants to Cry' Because Dog Waits Until Her Return to Drink Water

Unless you have cameras in your home, it's hard to know what your dog does or doesn't do when you're not there. Most of the time, dogs are sleeping or longing for you to return. Occasionally, they become bored and get into mischief. However, one pet parent teared up when she noticed what her dog wasn't doing.

Known on TikTok as @chrysticook, the dog owner said in a July 3 clip that she wants to cry every day after she returns home because her dog's water bowl remains untouched. Her golden retriever doesn't hydrate while home alone. No sip of water is taken. At least, that's what it looks like for the owner, based on the water levels.

But as soon as the owner returned, the dog went straight to her water bowl to drink. She wasn't coming up for air either, slurping up every last drop since she barely touched it, if at all.

The text on the video reads: "No because I actually want to cry every day I get home from work."

Her dog waits because she knows she gets to go out for a bathroom break when she returns home. The dog refrains from drinking water instead of holding her bladder.

The owner said in the comments section that even when she comes home for lunch, her dog still won't drink. The dog waits until she gets back for the rest of the day.

What Did Viewers Say?

The TikTok clip has over 3 million views, 456,600 likes and 1,326 comments. Pet parents flooded the comments section with their similar experiences.

"My dog does this but with her food! She won't eat her breakfast till I'm home from work and I have never been able to figure it out," wrote one owner.

Another said: "My vet told me it is because they usually sleep when we are not home... I hope that's true."

A third person shared: "I like to give my dog a treat before I leave the house and she always waits to eat it until I'm back."

But not every experience is a positive one: "My dog drinks all his water in one sitting and then pees on the floor when I'm gone."
