Rick and Morty are splitting up in the next episode of the Adult Swim show, titled "Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort."

What Happens in 'Rick and Morty' Season 5 Episode 8?
Co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have kept many of this season's storylines under wraps until the episodes air and "Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort" is no different.
The episode titles have largely been puns based on pop-culture references and this one is no different. This week's title is a parody of Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, written by Charlie Kaufman, which could imply that love and memory-erasing will be a theme within this week's story line.
The trailer for Episode 8 shows the Smith family packing up for a vacation, leaving Rick at home on his own. Beth tells him the emergency numbers are on the fridge, Rick is incredulous asking what that even means?
In a meta reference, when pushed if he's sure he doesn't want to come, Rick tells Morty he's trying to stay humble because there's potential he might have another "Pickle Rick"-style adventure—a reference to the fan-favorite Season 3 episode called "Pickle Rick."
As soon as the Smith family drive away, Rick is seen pouring himself a drink and with a heavy heart, pulls out the remains of his former best friend Birdperson. Rick's computer's voice implies Rick is planning to rejuvenate Birdperson-turned-Phoenixperson.
As the family drive away Morty mentions they're heading away on a cruise, which implies they're planning on leaving Rick on his own for a while.
Season 5 of 'Rick and Morty'
After Sunday's episode, Rick and Morty has just two interdimensional adventures left in Season 5.
The remaining episode titles are "Forgetting Sarick Mortshall" and "Rickmurai Jack" which are obvious references to the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the animated series Samurai Jack.
Rick and Morty airs at 11 p.m. on Sunday nights on Adult Swim.
