Watch Puppy's Reaction to Video of Mom Away for Seven Days: 'Pure Love'

A puppy that hadn't seen his human mom for seven long days had the cutest of reactions after finally seeing her face again on a video message.

To some, a dog isn't just a pet; it's family. In fact, a survey of 2,000 cat and dog owners conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Pet Honesty found that 1 in 4 referred to their pet as their "child."

Chas and Kezza, who live in Essex County, England, are pretty close to their beloved cavapoo puppy, Ted, and it's pretty clear he thinks of Kezza as his mom.

"He doesn't leave her side even when she goes to the bathroom," Chas told Newsweek. "He is the best friend she has ever had."

Kezza was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, and both she and her partner thought that adding Ted to their family would provide not only a welcome distraction but a pillar of support.

"My partner has been through a very tough few years personally," Chas said. "Ted is the perfect little boy to help her through these hard times she's had."

Ted has certainly been putting them through their paces while indulging in his favorite activity. "He loves going to the woods," Chas said. "He has a great stick collection in the garden, as he can't come home without one."

Chas went on: "He also plays with our cat, Trixy, regularly. He loves eating vegetables, and his mum is vegetarian, which is quite funny. He can walk on his back two legs. He comes to restaurants with us regularly and is friendly with all people and other dogs."

Ted is just 7 months old, and Chas admits he is a "very needy dog." "He loves us both very much," he said. "He has never spent more than a few hours apart from either of us since he was 8 weeks old."

Chas also said Ted always reacts with excitement when he comes home from work.

It's not uncommon for absence to make the heart grow fonder when it comes to our canine companions. In a 2011 study in Applied Animal Behaviour Science, 12 dogs with no history of separation anxiety were monitored after being left alone for 30 minutes and then two hours.

Researchers focused particularly on how the dogs reacted to the return of their owners after the conclusion of the allotted time periods. What they found was that the dogs greeted their owners with more gusto after two hours than they did after 30 minutes, suggesting that they missed them more with time.

That was just a few hours, though. For Ted, it was considerably longer. "My partner was away for a few days and fell ill, so had to stay isolated for a few days," Chas said.

Ted went seven days without seeing Kezza. "He was missing her a lot and acting sad," Chas said. Proof of just how much Kezza was missed can be seen in the video Chas shared to his TikTok page, @super_ted_23.

The video captures the moment Ted realizes the voice and picture he can see and hear on a nearby phone is that of his beloved Kezza. As soon as he realizes it's her, Ted rushes over to the phone and proceeds to paw at the screen before going in for a kiss.

"That's pure love right there," an on-screen caption reads as Kezza can be heard in the background promising to return home soon.

"He could see her on the phone and was also reacting to her voice," Chas told Newsweek.

Kezza is now back home, and Ted is happier than ever. The couple are planning on spending even more time together, with Ted set for training as Kezza's assistant dog.
